To obtain an international permit, it is imperative to apply for it a few weeks before departure with the prefecture, the sub-prefecture or in some town halls. Several documents will be requested, you can find them on the site of the Public Service.

The application for an international permit is free of charge. This driving license is valid for 3 years and authorizes the driving of the same vehicle categories (car, motorcycle, etc.) as those of your French driver's license.
